The Symptoms of Wheat Allergy


Wheat allergy is the reaction of the body that involves immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies and the proteins found in wheat that includes globulin, albumin, gliadin, and glutenin. Most of the reactions come from the interaction between albumin and globulin. Allergic reactions produce varied symptom depending on the individual and the state of his immune system.

The reactions normally start a few minutes after the individual inhaled wheat or ingested wheat or products with wheat content. Below is the common list of symptoms associated with wheat allergy.

Urticaria (hives).  It is a skin disorder characterized by itchy red bumps caused by an allergic reaction.

Atopic dermatitis (eczema). It is another skin disease that is the result of allergic reaction or skin irritants. The skin of the patient with this disorder becomes red, flaky and very itchy.

Allergic rhinitis. Is a symptom manifesting in the nasal area characterized by runny nose, headache, lightheadedness, and even cough.

Asthma. A condition where there is chronic lung inflammation and narrowing of the bronchial tube resulting to shortness of breath and chest pains.

Anaphylactic shock. A severe reaction of the body to an allergen can cause the airways to shut off, depriving several organs of oxygen. Anaphylaxis affects multiple organs simultaneously. This is a major cause of death for people with adverse allergic reactions.
