How Dangerous Can Wheat Allergy Become?


Wheat allergy should be taken seriously. It can severely affect the body to the point of damaging internal organs. The danger that comes from this type of allergy comes from the severity of the symptoms. For some people, allergic reactions to wheat are mild such as allergic rhinitis and some skin disorders like hives and eczema. However, there are some cases where the symptoms are so severe that they can be life-threatening such as anaphylactic shock and some digestive symptoms.

Like any other types of allergies, reactions from wheat can cause anaphylaxis. This is a highly dangerous symptom especially for infants who have difficulty or none at all, communicating the symptoms. Anaphylaxis can cause the airways to close, depriving person oxygen to the brain and other organs in the body. This disorder can also make other vital systems to shut down such as the upper and lower respiratory tracts, digestive systems, cardiovascular system, and nervous system. The reactions can happen so fast that immediate hospitalization is necessary. For some people, reactions will take effect a few hours after inhaling wheat or ingesting it, while for some, it is only a matter of minutes.
