Herbal Remedies for Seasonal Allergies

Many people would consider taking natural herb as treatment for seasonal allergies than using antihistamines. Sometimes, the side effects from antihistamines can lead to dry mouth and increased blood pressure. The most common side effect though is extreme drowsiness, which can become impractical especially during work.

Herbal remedies are known to work just fine in giving relief to hay fever. Below are the examples of herbs that are most commonly used.

Stinging Nettle. This herb as an excellent natural antihistamine but without the drowsiness associated with the drug version.

Butterbur. Also an effective antihistamine herb, but is difficult to come by in the United States.

Quercetin. Aside from being an effective herb remedy for allergies, this herb also acts as a natural antioxidant that can help prevent some types of cancer.

Plantain. This has been a proven anti-respiratory remedy over the years. It is also effective in treating cough and inflammation.

Chamomile. German researchers found out that this drug could slow down the allergic reactions, such as those that trigger asthma attacks, by increasing the production of cortisone. Cortisone reduces lung inflammation and makes breathing easier.

As good as it may sound these herbs should not be taken blindly. You have to check with your allergy doctor first if any of these plants can help treat your seasonal allergy to avoid side effects.
