Pollen allergy factsPollen allergy is the form of allergy caused by the pollen grains. It is very closely related to pollen grains released by the trees, plants and weeds for fertilization. But, many of them instead of fertilizing enter the human body through nose and throat during breathing and trigger pollen allergy. It is seasonal in nature and is usually caused during the spring, summer and the fall. The degree of seriousness involving pollen allergy also depends on its chemical makeup. Such an allergy is hard to escape as pollens which fly in the air are usually found everywhere. Some people are vulnerable to a particular pollen grain. So, it depends a lot on the geographical location taken into account. Some of its symptoms are sneezing, itching and watery eyes, clogged nose and red-rimmed eyes. It is mainly caused by chemicals such as histamine, leukotrienes and prostaglandins which is released by the mast cells when the pollen enters the mucus membrane. Subsequently, it may cause irritation and production of excess mucous. Moreover, pollen allergy also causes asthma which gives rise to serious respiratory problems. The best way to keep away from pollen allergy is to stay indoors during dry, warm and breezy days or avoiding movement to places showing higher count of pollen. Besides, one can also use medicines on the prescription of a physician. |
