Treatment of Mold Allergy

Mold allergies can give you the same symptoms like the ones caused by pollens. In terms of treatment, most allergies share the same type of drug. The treatments for most allergies are the prescription of antihistamines and decongestants. If you have more severe reactions, it is your doctor's call to prescribe a stronger dosage. To clear your congested nose, you may have to use steroidal sprays or inhalers in the event that you also have asthma. These medications are quick, easy to use, and very effective.

For mold allergy sufferers, they can take their medications without apparent side effects. The only downside for these drugs is that it can cause extreme drowsiness. You can also take non-sedating antihistamines. Ask your doctor about it.

While most medications are effective treatment for mold allergies, the most important thing to do is to prevent the allergy itself. You have to avoid, at all costs, contact with mold spores. If outside activity is unavoidable and you think you may be vulnerable to molds, make sure to wear a dust mask. In addition, try to reduce the humidity in places where you normally stay long such as your bedroom, kitchen, or living room to prevent fungi from growing.

If there are more severe reactions, talk to your doctor or allergist so you can ask for allergy shots.
