The Symptoms of Mold Allergy

Individuals suffering from mold allergy may exhibit the same symptoms caused by other common allergies like sneezing, nasal discharge, congestion, dry scaling skin, and itching. Since molds are present all throughout the year, people with allergic reactions to them can have the symptoms almost every day, especially if symptoms are due to indoor molds.

Spores of molds can deposit on the lining of the nose and cause symptoms similar to the ones caused by allergy to pollens, also known as "hay fever". A more adverse effect can happen if molds can reach the lungs to cause asthma or allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (an exaggerated response of the immune system to a particular fungus which can cause the airway inflammation and complicate the sacs of the airways). Some people may not experience the symptoms right away. For some the response is immediate. If your symptoms worsen in a damp or moldy room such as a basement, you may be suffering from this type of allergy.

Visit your doctor right away to get proper diagnosis and treatment. In the meantime, make sure to always clean the place where you stay most of the time. Exposed damp areas to heat or sunlight or thoroughly clean them to remove the mold spores.
