Hay Fever - Kind Of Allergic Rhinitis

This is a kind of Allergic Rhinitis that is sparked off by the pollens of certain flowers of some seasonal plants. It is most common during the `haying season`. But it is also possible to suffer from it the whole year through. The causative agents vary from country to country but the wind pollinated plants are the most predominating cause as the pollen flies through the air.

Some examples of plants that can cause this state are trees such as pine, birch, alder, cedar, hazel, horse chestnut, hazel. Birch in the Northern latitudes and Olive pollen in the Mediterranean regions are the common causatives. Grass pollen like that of rye grass and timothy is deadly and grasses cause 90% of the damage. Some weeds like ragweed and dock also cause hay fever.

Treatments vary. Staying indoors during great onrushes of such pollen during seasons and keeping the environment very clean can help .Pollen filters can be attached to home and the car air conditioning systems. Bathing before sleeping is a good idea. Keeping your nose clean at regular intervals is another way to keep away the contaminants.

Several drugs are available such as antihistamines, cortisone, epinephrine and cromolyn sodium. More severe cases require allergy shots or immunotherapy or removal of tissue from the nose.
