Treatments for Dust AllergyAny good allergy treatment is based on the results of your allergy tests, and the severity of the symptoms. Part of the treatment includes three basic things: avoidance of known allergens, medication options and/or immunotherapy or allergy shots. Avoidance of allergens. This is the most important and effective step to stop the symptoms and minimize the need for medicines. For dust allergy, knowing where dust mites are normally located is a good move. Try to avoid cleaning the house yourself. If this unavoidable, be sure to wear a dust mask. Try to stay as long as you can from the place you just cleaned to allow the place to get cleared from airborne mites. Medication. Some people do not take their symptoms seriously by not taking their medications. While allergies are harmless they can result to painful complications such as sinus or ear infections. Always take your medicines to avoid future problems. The most common medicines for dust allergy are antihistamines and decongestants. They can be prescribed or over-the-counter drugs. Allergy shots. Sometimes, medications are not enough especially for patients with severe symptoms. Doctors would often recommend giving their patients increasingly higher doses of their allergen for an extended period. Over time, the patient will become less sensitive to that allergen. |
