Diagnosing a Mold AllergyIf you suspect that you are suffering from mold allergy, seek the advice of your doctor right away to get a confirmation. Your doctor will normally ask for your complete medical history. If there is a high probability that mold is the cause, your physician will usually require you to undergo a skin test. Different types of fungi extracts will be used to prick or scratch the skin. If there are no reactions, allergy will be ruled out. For some people with allergy, even irritation alone can cause a reaction. Hence, you doctor uses your medical history, skin testing results, and other physical examination combinations to confirm mold allergy. Skin Test There are a several types of allergy testing. For mold allergy diagnosis, percutaneous skin test is used. This is done by making a very tiny cut on the skin, or just a simple prick. For some, scratching the skin surface will suffice. Tiny drops of purified allergen extracts are scratched or pricked to the skin. If there is a mold allergy, it will be noted together with its reaction. Afterwards, your doctor should be able to give you the suitable treatment. Treatments can either be prescribed or over-the-counter drugs. |
