Define food allergyThe condition in which an adverse response to some kinds of foods is caused by the immune system is known as food allergy. There are different types of food allergies. Food allergens are the food proteins which are responsible for the onset of the allergic response by the immune system of the body. Sometimes food allergy is misunderstood and confused with other similar disorders like food intolerance although the two are very different. Food allergy is very much wide spread and continues to affect more and more people. Statistics show that kids are very much prone to having food allergies especially those who are below the age of three years. It is not very different in the case of adults. As much as four percent of adults are known to suffer from some or the other kind of food allergy. When food allergies are limited to the allergens present in milk and other dairy products then that specific kind of food allergy is termed as dairy allergy. Food allergies should not be taken lightly and should be given due attention as they might prove to be fatal if left untreated and unattended to and also has severe effects. |
