Dairy product allergyThe word ‘dairy’ is associated with cow’s milk. Being allergic to dairy products means being allergic to one of the three components found in cow milk. In a broader sense, it can also be termed as milk allergy. Three major components of dairy products are lactose, casein protein and whey protein. Out of the three, casein protein causes more intense allergic problems followed by lactose which also causes mild allergy if not properly synthesized due to the lack of lactase. It is mostly seen among babies. This type of allergy is not only restricted to the cow’s milk and is also found in the cases involving the use of the milk of other ruminants like goats, sheep and buffaloes. Some of its symptoms are: hives, diarrhea, chronic congestion and eczema. The use of medicines that are capable of breaking down the proteins into simpler forms can prove to be helpful. However, for desirable results, one must use them according to the prescription of a physician. One of the simple solutions to the problem of allergy caused by lactose is to use the dietary supplements which are easily available in the market. Other than this, adding lactase directly to the diary products is another solution to the problem. |
