Can Antihistamines be taken with other DrugsAntihistamines are a proven group of drugs to soothe discomforts from allergic reactions. It must be noted, however, that antihistamines can cause more complications if taken with other drugs. Depending on a certain antihistamine that you are taking, it is possible that it can negatively affect other drugs that you are taking. Antihistamines can most likely affect drugs used as sedatives, sleeping pills, and muscle relaxants. If you are taking any these mentioned drugs, talk to your doctor before taking any form of antihistamine. Some antihistamines are often combined with pain relievers and/or decongestants. Understanding the active ingredients of each drug and their interactions to each other is important if you are taking a combination of medicines. Be careful not to take too more antihistamines. Many over-the-counter allergy and cold medications, and other prescription drugs contain antihistamine. If you are taking more than one of these products, you may have more antihistamine than what you really need. Always check with your doctor what the best drug is for you. Mention any drugs you are currently taking to avoid complications. Even synthetic vitamins and minerals should be mentioned. You always have to be extra careful when taking a combination of medications. |
