The Seriousness of Aspirin AllergyLike any allergy, being allergic to aspirin should not be taken for granted. While most people who have this type of allergy reports mild and non-fatal symptoms, aspirin allergy can become a potential cause of death for a few if left untreated. The most serious reaction that can happen because of aspirin ingestion is anaphylactic shock. What is this symptom? Anaphylactic shock can be triggered by many allergens. Drugs such as aspirin can also cause anaphylaxis. This symptom can vary from every individual. The effects can be felt over minutes to a few hours after making contact with the allergen. This medical condition can cripple the body because it will affect the upper and lower respiratory tracts first--blocking the airways and depriving the body of the needed oxygen. This, in turn, will create a series of effects that will impact other vital systems. The respiratory system will be hard hit causing chest pains and shortness of breath. The Gastrointestinal system will also suffer causing vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. A possible heart failure can occur due to the presence of histamine in the blood vessels. The nervous system will also be impacted resulting to lightheadedness and loss of consciousness to the patient. |
