Histamine is a chemical substance released by human bodies when there is some allergy trigger. And this chemical is responsible for blocked nose, congestion and sneezing. Antihistamines can also be effectively used in treating hay fever, severe allergic reactions, inflammation of eyes, inflammation of nasal passage, itching of eyes and many more.

Antihistamines must be taken after consulting the doctor. This is because some over the counter antihistamines have side effects like nausea and drowsiness. And thus, these drugs must be avoided especially when you are driving a vehicle. However, the new generation antihistamines are free from side effects like sleepiness and drowsiness.
